I hope this helps you in backing up your movie library. I am not endorsing pirating or anything like that at all.

I also am only posting this as a means to inform you on how to back up your movies digitally. My wife loves the movies I was able to back up and doesn't see a huge loss on what I've copied. It is capable of creating nearly identical copies of any DVD, even copyrighted DVDs. This process also doesn't produce full 1080p movies with HD sound quality.but its pretty close to it. When the source DVD is under the size limit, we prefer not to alter it in any way for this, we use Alcohol 120. Last thing I should mention that I haven't tried anything yet with subtitles so I am unsure on how well it works for those purposes. For whatever reason, it wouldn't get the last 15 minutes or so. There are also some movies that I have had trouble ripping, like the movie Flight. When playing it on my PC (VLC media player) the subtitles are there. THis process does not remove Cinavia protection of the discs (hence why I use a Rasberry Pi and Plex with my Rokus). The only problem that I have is that the subtitles will not show up when playing on the Cambridge Azur 751BD. The reason I rip the movie first to my hard drive is to check to make sure that it copied correctly. Usually I use MP4 for the DVDs and Blue Ray as MKVs just due to the times I had MP4 fail for Blue Ray copies of movies. These two file formats work perfectly for me as I usually am streaming to my Pi or am watching it on my computer using either VLC.

Reason I like DVDFab is because their free version still allows movies and Blue Rays to be copied, however you do have to wait a few days after a new movie release for the free version to copy it (unless you buy the full version).Īfter it rips the movie in its entirety, I use Handbrake to compress the actual movie and convert the video file into either MP4 or MKV.

So I decided to try DVDFab's trial for a while and it worked pretty well. I used a hacked version of AnyDVD HD and Handbrake for a while, but the problem was with that was I couldn't update AnyDVD to allow the newer movies to be copied. I did a lot of research and was getting a lot of mixed results. Some options worked, some didnt and some worked only half-way. About a year ago I decided that I had wanted to back up my movie collection (Blue Rays and DVDs) however didnt know how to do this.
